Advanced GI Motility Testing with an FDA-cleared Ingestible Capsule

NYGA is proud to be the first gastroenterology practice in the United States to offer the Atmo® Gas Capsule. This innovative, FDA-cleared diagnostic test enables noninvasive evaluation of gastrointestinal motility by analyzing intestinal gas patterns and other parameters as the capsule travels naturally through the patient’s gastrointestinal tract.

What Is Atmo Gas Capsule?

The Atmo Gas Capsule is a swallowable capsule that measures gas levels and movement throughout the digestive tract as it naturally travels through your system. Unlike traditional motility tests, this capsule collects real-time data during everyday activities, offering valuable insights into how your gut functions outside of a clinical setting.

How the capsule works

After the capsule is swallowed, it wirelessly transmits information about gas patterns and gut activity to a small wearable receiver. The capsule passes naturally through the digestive tract and is expelled during a bowel movement. No sedation, scopes, radiation, or invasive testing are required.

What makes this test different?

The Atmo Gas Capsule is the first technology of its kind to directly measure gastrointestinal gas dynamics in real time. It provides objective data that help distinguish between motility disorders, functional GI conditions, and other causes of persistent digestive to more precisely guide treatment.

Conditions This Atmo Gas Capsule Can Help Diagnose

Motility disorders

The Atmo Gas Capsule is particularly valuable for evaluating gastrointestinal motility disorders, including gastroparesis and chronic slow-transit constipation.

Chronic gastrointestinal symptoms

Patients with persistent symptoms such as bloating, excess fullness after meals, abdominal pain, constipation, or unexplained abdominal discomfort may benefit from this advanced testing. The Atmo Gas Capsule provides real-time insight into how intestinal contents move through the gut, helping gastroenterologists determine whether symptoms are related to motility issues, functional gastrointestinal disorders, or other underlying conditions.
