Why did you choose to specialize in gastroenterology?

I chose gastroenterology because it offers a unique combination of intellectual problem-solving, procedural medicine through various endoscopic techniques, and the opportunity to build long-term relationships with patients. My goal has always been to provide highly individualized care, and gastroenterology allows me to tailor diagnostic and treatment approaches to each patient's specific needs and circumstances. I enjoy the challenge of evaluating complex symptoms, developing thoughtful treatment plans, and using endoscopic procedures when appropriate to help my patients.

I am also drawn to the breadth of the field, which encompasses everything from preventive care and routine screening to the management of complex digestive, liver, and pancreatic diseases. The gastrointestinal system is incredibly complex, and there is still so much to learn and discover, making it a specialty that continuously evolves. That combination of lifelong learning, diverse pathology, and personalized patient care is what made gastroenterology the ideal fit for me.

What are your areas of special interest and expertise within gastroenterology?

As a general gastroenterologist, I enjoy caring for patients across the full spectrum of digestive health conditions. I strive to provide individualized, patient-centered care for a wide range of disorders, including heartburn and reflux, swallowing disorders, liver disease, motility disorders, constipation, inflammatory bowel disease, gastrointestinal bleeding, and colorectal cancer screening and surveillance, among many others. I value taking the time to understand each patient's unique symptoms and concerns to develop a treatment plan that is both effective and tailored to their specific needs.

Do you have any special honors, recognition, or achievements in your medical career that you would like to share?

During my gastroenterology fellowship training at NYU, I was honored to be named GI Fellow of the Year twice, a recognition that I greatly value. I was also selected to serve as a Chief Medical Resident at NYU, where I focused on medical student education, mentorship, and clinical teaching, including contributions to clerkship development and curriculum enhancement. These experiences reinforced my passion for education and lifelong learning. I believe that staying current with advances in medicine and continually refining my clinical knowledge are essential to providing patients with the highest quality, evidence-based care.

What do you and your family enjoy doing in your spare time?

Outside of medicine, I enjoy traveling with my wife and family and experiencing different cultures through their food, traditions, and local communities. One of my favorite parts of traveling is exploring new dining scenes and cuisines, then trying to recreate some of those memorable dishes at home.

I also love spending time home in New York City, discovering hidden gems, exploring new neighborhoods and restaurants, and taking advantage of the incredible cultural experiences the city has to offer. Whether at home or abroad, I enjoy opportunities to learn, explore, and connect with people through food and culture.
